In the W-3D manufacturing plant eight precisely coordinated process steps ensure the production of high-quality 3D-printed parts.

1. Data transfer or design?

We adapt optimally to the special requirements and wishes of our customers. Therefore we either produce strictly according to the provided data or also take over component optimizations on request.
To optimise and digitise its manufacturing processes, W-3D uses an advanced online calkulator. Your customer benefit: automated costing, intelligent capacity planning, significantly easier cooperation with you via a shared platform for design discussions and order management, as well as full traceability of all production steps and transparent workflows.

Of course we can also create the data for the design of specific projects in-house.

2. 3D printing with top quality

Using the HP-Multi-Jet-Fusion process a special fusing agent is sprayed exactly onto a layer of material powder and then fused with infrared light.

With the materials PA12, PA12GB, PA12W (white) and TPU (Shore 90) we offer a wide spectrum for highest demands in industrial 3D printing:

  • PA12 impresses with toughness, chemical resistance and dimensional accuracy – especially for prototypes and series parts.
  • PA12GB raises stiffness, heat resistance and precision through glass-bead filling, perfect for technical applications.
  • PA12W stands for high strength, excellent detail fidelity and lasting stability in brilliant white, optimal for functional components and design models.
  • TPU complements the portfolio with flexibility, robustness and abrasion resistance – ideal for long-life, shock- and vibration-damping components.

3. Unpacking and cleaning

The HP Processing Station and Natural-Cooling Units complement MJF 3D printers ideally in this phase. At the same time an important preparation step for depowdering is already carried out.

The HP Processing Station is a logical addition to HP Multi Jet Fusion printers and enables efficient unpacking, cooling and powder recycling. Your customer benefit: cleaner, faster workflow, reduced material loss, optimised costs and higher productivity in additive manufacturing. Natural-Cooling Units are specially designed modules for MJF 3D printers in which parts cool down gently after printing.

Your customer benefit: reduced warpage stresses, higher dimensional accuracy, parallel printing through relief of the build chamber and increased overall production efficiency.

4. Efficient depowdering

With the Rösler systems 3D-printed polymer parts can be efficiently depowdered and densified. The combined process improves surface quality and stability – ideal for PA12 grey, PA12W and TPU.

The depowdering and densification are carried out in an integrated process: after 3D printing the parts are freed from excess powder. This ensures smooth, homogeneous surfaces and increases mechanical stability. Additionally this process reduces porosity and gives the parts a uniquely high-quality appearance.

Your customer benefit: shorter process times, improved functionality and reproducible quality, which is also excellently suited for series production.

5. Setting standards with vibratory finishing

W-3D efficiently refines series parts from 3D printing in consistent top quality. Vibratory mass finishing delivers smooth, robust and aesthetic surfaces – perfect for functional parts as well as for high-end design parts.

The Rösler system R620 with 1600 mm diameter and approx. 550 kg of grinding medium enables efficient vibratory finishing of 3D-printed parts in industrial quality. Through the uniform movement of workpieces and grinding media, surfaces are smoothed, edges rounded and roughness reduced. Depending on the medium various effects arise from coarse deburring to fine finish. The system processes large quantities in one pass and delivers reproducible results.

6. Sealed surfaces via vapor smoothing

Using chemical vapor smoothing W-3D refines high-quality plastic components quickly and reliably. The result: flawlessly smooth, sealed surfaces, precise details – all in one single process step.

In chemical vapor smoothing the printed parts are exposed to a solvent vapour that deliberately acts on the surface. The vapour slightly dissolves the upper layer of the material, thereby smoothing the microscopic layer lines of the 3D prints. Through precise control of temperature, pressure and vapour amount reproducible results can be achieved even for large parts.

Your customer benefit: dimensional accuracy as well as detail resolution remain preserved and a uniform, glossy surface significantly improves the aesthetics.

7. Color variety – individuality even in mass production

The Thies-minicolor colouring machines at W-3D were acquired especially for the precise implementation of small as well as large batch sizes. Through the closed, controlled system the materials can be coloured evenly and reproducibly.

The fully automatic colouring systems work according to a particularly gentle, computer-controlled process. Small batches can be flexibly coloured for special productions or prototypes, while large batches are efficiently and uniformly produced for series production. As an exclusive special construction for W-3D even very large batches (138 litres / special construction exclusively for W-3D) are feasible.

The system enables a fast change-over between colours and materials, guarantees brilliant, uniform colour results – and this even for complex special productions. This is how the Thies-minicolor systems combine highest flexibility with industrial precision.

We offer a seamless service for the shipping of your goods: automated processes, state-of-the-art technology and strong shipping partners guarantee punctuality and maximum security. On request we assemble on site.
Whether small packages or bulky parts, all goods are carefully packaged in the in-house packing station with a fully automatic stretch-wrapper and optimally prepared for transport. For particularly urgent parts we deliver directly to the destination with our own 3.5-t transporter. Larger shipments are sent efficiently by pallet or freight forwarder.

Furthermore we also supply ready-to-install assembly units, equip them with threaded inserts or even assemble components on site. Thanks to modern technology, automated processes and trained personnel we ensure maximum safety, fast delivery times and high flexibility. Customers benefit from transparent tracking, reliable delivery windows and individual logistics consulting – so every shipment reaches its destination on schedule, safely and professionally.
